VIA Rail Canada logoOTTAWA, Ontario — Canada’s Transport Minister, Pablo Rodriguez, has reappointed one member and announced new appointments of three others to the VIA Rail Canada board of directors.

The VIA appointees announced Wednesday, Aug. 28, were among 26 appointments to 11 transportation-related organizations overseen by the federal government. Others included port authorities in Montreal and Prince Rupert, B.C.

Reappointed to the board was H. Glenn Rainbird of Belleville, Ont., for a term ending June 16, 2027. Rainbird, a board member since 2017, is retired from a career as an executive in the information/communications technology and energy industries.

New members are Filipe Dinis of Ottawa and Catherine Kloepfer of Winnipeg, Manitoba, appointed to terms ending May 23, 2028, and Jonathan Scott of Bradford West Gwillimbury, Ont., appointed to a term ending July 18, 2028.

Dinis retired as chief operating officer of the Bank of Canada in June, where his leadership of operations included a focus on cybersecurity and operational resilience. Kloepfer also has a finance background, having held senior positions at accounting firm KPMG, the Winnipeg Airports Authority, and most recently as chief financial officer at the City of Winnipeg. Scott is a town councillor in Bradford West Gwillimbury, a community about 30 miles north of Toronto, and is a vice president at Toronto-based advertising firm Key Gordon Inc.

“I wish these highly qualified Canadians every success in these roles,” Rodriguez said in a press release. “The transportation sector impacts businesses, passengers, and tourists, and these important appointments will ensure that these organizations continue to fulfill their mandate and serve Canadians across the country.”
