WASHINGTON — Amtrak has named Byl Herrmann as execute vice president and general counsel, responsible for the long-term priorities and annual operating plan for the company’s legal department.

“Byl has helped guide the evolution of Amtrak’s Law department and corporate development over many decades and brings a comprehensive and deep knowledge of all facets of the company,” Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner said in a press release. “He’s the right person to help lead the company forward as we build a new era of rail in the United States, building upon the strong legacy set by his predecessor, Eldie Acheson.”

Herrmann’s new position is effective Oct. 1, as he succeeds Acheson. She will remain with Amtrak in her corporate secretary and ethics officer roles through January 2025, after which Herrmann will assume both roles.

Herrmann joined the Amtrak Law Department in 1999 and has held roles including Vice President Human Resources and, most recently, vice president and senior managing deputy general counsel and assistant corporate secretary. In that position, he has managed or overseen litigation, transactions, legal compliance and the corporate secretary’s office.
