JACKSONVILLE — CSX Corp. will donate $100,000 to American Red Cross relief and recovery efforts in communities hit by Hurricane Helene, the company has announced.
The company will also provide a dollar-for-dollar match for donations by employees to the Red Cross.
“The devastation caused by Hurricane Helene has deeply impacted the communities where our employees, families, neighbors, and customers live and work,” CEO Joe Hinrichs said in announcing the donation on Friday, Sept. 27. “Our contribution to the American Red Cross is a reflection of our dedication to ensuring that essential resources reach the people and communities that need them the most as they begin the long process of rebuilding and healing.”
The donation will support assistance work including working with community and government agencies to assess damange and support emergency needs. The American Red Cross is providing shelter, food, and health services to families who have lost their home and belongings.
Maybe the amount is small in comparison to earnings, but they are also going to have to spend big $$ to rebuild their RR.
Great job CSX on helping to ease the tragic losses in the area. Proud to be a CSX stockholder.
For clarity, this amounts to 0.00178% of 2023 profits. CSX profits are $634,000 per hour, so the charitable contribution is 10 minutes of annual profits.
It’s the PR that counts!
Gregg, I thought it was chintzy too, but a little of something is better than all of nothing.
