BEISEKER, Alberta — No injuries were reported and no hazardous materials were involved when 19 cars of a Canadian National train derailed today (Friday, Nov. 1) about 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) north of the town of Beiseker, the Calgary Herald reports.
The derailed cars included empty petroleum tank cars and 14 cars of household goods, according to local officials. A photo from the scene shows double-stack container cars were involved.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada announced it is sending a team of investigators to the scene of the incident.
Beiseker is about 70 kilometers (43 miles) northeast of Calgary.
Is anyone keeping a running account of the cost for repair or replacement of damaged railcars in these derailments? Or the cost of damaged or leaked transported cargo? How do the cargo owners get reimbursed and how long can that take? Who assesses the damage costs, both in material and time when a needed cargo doesn’t arrive. Accountants must find this a real challenge to make things right.
