ATLANTA — Norfolk Southern has appointed Joseph H. Carpenter IV as vice president law, the company announced on Monday (Nov. 4).
Carpenter will lead the company’s law department, guiding legal efforts and advancing regulatory initiatives. He will report to Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer Jason Morris, who was named to that position in September [see “Norfolk Southern names new chief financial officer, chief legal officer,” Trains News Wire, Sept. 25, 2024].
“Joe Carpenter is a trusted leader with a deep understanding of Norfolk Southern, the rail industry, and the law,” Morris said in a press release. “His integrity, strategic insight, and collaborative leadership style make him an excellent choice for this crucial role. His expertise will help us navigate the opportunities and challenges ahead as we continue delivering value for our customers and communities.”
Carpenter joined Norfolk Southern in 2002. Most recently he has been senior general counsel, complex litigation and information governance. He serves on the executive committee of the National Assocation of Railroad Trial Counsel.
