PORT CLINTON, Pa. — The Reading & Northern Railroad has announced two promotions within its passenger department, with Jennifer Frederickson becoming director of passenger marketing, retail, and community development, and Meg Pursel named assistant vice president-passenger special projects, office car specials, and special excursions.
Frederickson, who started with the railroad in 2018 as a mascot at the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, creates the flyers, banners, and other promotional materials for passenger operations; coordinates advertising with media outlets; and manages the Black Diamond Company Store, which returned after a lengthy absence in 2023 with both an online presence and a location at the railroad’s Nesquehoning campus.
Purcel joined Reading & Northern as a part-time receptionist in 2020, while still running a family business managing the advertising, sales, financing, ordering and restoration of horse trailers with living quarters. With Matt Fisher, head of the passenger department, and Therman Madeira, she helped develop the R&N’s paint department, with full-time employees and a restoration shop. Purcel managed the paint department, with duties including overseeing the maintenance and restoration of private cars and the passenger fleet, as well as locomotive painting. Her customer-service experience has proved valuable in managing the office-car specials and private trips. Madeira, who has retired, continues to advise Purcel on a variety of special projects.
