JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Port Authority Trans-Hudson rail passengers with disabilities will receive a 50% fare discount beginning in 2025, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey board of commissioners has decided.
The board on Dec. 12 approved the program, which had been proposed in November by the governors of the two states and the Port Authority [see “Governors, Port Authority propose PATH fare reduction …,” Trains News Wire, Nov. 15, 2024]. The discount matches that already offered to seniors. Riders can begin applying to take part in the discount program in spring 2025; it will be implemented in the summer as PATH rolls out its tap-and-go fare system.
“We deeply value the dedication of advocates and community partners who have collaborated with us to turn this effort into action,” Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole said in a press release. “This program represents meaningful progress toward making the PATH system more accessible and equitable for all riders, particularly those who rely on public transit as a lifeline.”
