POMONA, Calif. — An Amtrak engineer in California is the subject of a murder investigation after two homeless men were found shot to death Aug. 12 at the Pomona, Calif., Amtrak station.

The Los Angeles Times reports that police allege an Amtrak engineer, Christopher Matthew Peterson, killed Robert Salinas Jr., and Jeremy Alexander Henness.

The Times reports that the homeless men were found by a third, unnamed homeless person, who reported the incident.

As police were investigating the homicides, dispatchers received a call from Peterson saying he might have been involved in a shooting in Pomona, the Times reports.

The newspaper cites an Amtrak official saying that Peterson had been employed by the railroad since 2010 and that he had last been on duty two days before.

The Times reports that Peterson entered a “not guilty” plea in a California court.

Amtrak in California did not immediately respond to a Trains News Wire email.

  1. The engineer was probably getting high after hours at the station or scoring drugs off of these guys. How could Amtrak not know about this behavior. When he says he was intoxicated or high that means he was HIGH.

  2. I live on So Cal, and this is the first report of this that I’ve seen. Our local news media seem to cover less and less real news with each passing day.

  3. WAYNE – Reading this article is like reading the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel each morning. One knows less after reading than before reading.

  4. The article leaves more questions unanswered than answered. Was he attacked and defended himself? Just because someone’s homeless doesn’t mean he can’t be a predator, and a dangerous one at that.
