WASHINGTON — Alvin Brown has been appointed as vice chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board, the board announced Monday, Dec. 23. The appointment by President Joe Biden was made on Friday, Dec. 20.
Brown’s appointment to the board was confirmed by the Senate in March; he joined the agency in April [see “Brown, Inman sworn in …,” Trains News Wire, April 10, 2024]. The former mayor of Jacksonville, Fla., will serve on the NTSB through 2026.
“I am honored to be named in this new role of vice chair of the National Transportation Safety Board,” Brown said in a press release. “The NTSB is the gold standard for public safety, and I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues at this federal agency to save lives and make transportation safer.”
Brown previously served as senior advisor for community infrastructure opportunities at the U.S. Department of Transportation. He was a White House staff member during the Clinton Administration, serving as senior advisor for urban policy to Vice President Al Gore.
