KCS spent $9 million to expand the David L. Starling Wylie Intermodal Terminal, which opened in 2015 and is named for one of the railroad’s former chief executives.
Improvements include an additional 9,500 feet of track, which boosts the annual lift capacity to 342,000, up from 161,000 in 2017.
“These improvements will result in greater fluidity and efficiency of the Wylie terminal, including faster availability of containers and improved on-time arrivals and departures,” Eric Hansen, vice president of intermodal, wrote in an Oct. 5 customer notification.
The terminal offers service to destinations in the Midwest and East Coast as well as Canada and Mexico. It features 1,500 parking spaces, 300 container stack spots, an automated gate system, and biometric driver identification.
