PITTSBURGH — TRANSAP, a rail-based logistics company in Chile, has ordered four C30ACi locomotives, Wabtec has announced.
The locomotives will be the company’s first with AC traction. They will be used to fulfill a long-term contract with forestry company ARAUCO on Chile’s Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado rail network.
“This order is a critical step for TRANSAP as we position our locomotive fleet to meet growing needs of our customers and the country,” TRANSAP CEO Eric Lobo said in a press release. “The addition of these new locomotives aligns with our vision of providing efficient, safe, and sustainable rail service for our customers.”
The C30ACi is designed for light axle-load applications and is designed to operate on sharp curves or in locations with tight clearances. Its traction-control technology allows one unit to do the work of two DC locomotives, Wabtec says.
“The C30ACis are an ideal complement to TRANSAP’s fleet and the region’s challenging rail network,” said Danilo Miyasato, Wabtec president and regional leader for Latin America. “These locomotives will provide low operational costs, high availability, and proven reliability needed to efficiently meet customer needs.”
