Trains Washington Watch logoWASHINGTON — A shuffling of congressional committee assignments has led to a new chairman for the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials.

U.S. Rep. Daniel Webster (R-Fla.) was named the subcommittee chair on Tuesday, Jan. 21, following the reassignment of Rep. David Rouzer (R-N.C.), who will now head the Highways and Transit subcommittee. That move followed selection of Rep. Rick Crawford (R-Ark.) as chair of the House Intelligence Committee, which led Crawford to relinquish his position as the Highways and Transit chair. Crawford will serve as vice chair of the full Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

“I want to congratulate Rick Crawford on being appointed by Speaker Johnson to lead the Intelligence Committee, and fortunately we will be able to continue to rely on his experience and leadership at T&I as the Vice Chairman of the full Committee,” committee Chair Sam Graves said in a statement. “Likewise, our current slate of chairs will provide strong leadership at every subcommittee, now with Congressman Rouzer leading the Highways and Transit Subcommittee, Congressman Webster heading the Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee, and Congressman [Mike] Ezell [R-Miss.] chairing the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee.”

Webster, 75, is in his eighth term in the House, and represents Florida’s 11th District, which includes part of Orlando and communities to its west.
