TORONTO — A group of F59 locomotives from LA-area commuter operator Metrolink will be used for operational support for GO Transit and as spare parts for GO Transit’s existing F59 fleet, provincial transit agency Metrolinx has announced.

Ontario Northland will refurbish the locomotives, Metrolinx said in a press release that focused primarily on planned renovations of 302 cars of its bilevel fleet  — 181 by Alstom and 121 by Ontario Northland [see “Alstom to overhaul, modernize …,” Trains News Wire, Jan. 17, 2025].

Pictured are five of the Metrolink locomotives, SPTX Nos. 865, 858, 854, 864, and 860, during a move in Canadian National train X394 on Dec. 28, 2024. Three other units had arrived earlier.
