CRUM, W.Va. — A rockslide led to the derailment of 18 cars of a Norfolk Southern train on Friday (Jan. 31, 2025) near the town of Crum, the railroad has announced.
The incident occurred about 10 p.m., according to WVMetroNews.com.
WOWK-TV reports one of the derailed cars carried a hazardous substance, toluene, but railroad spokeswoman Heather Garcia told MetroNews no leaks occurred, and there was no danger to the public. There were no injuries reported.
Local first responders cleared the scene by 1:30 a.m. today.
Crum, adjacent to the West Virginia-Kentucky state line, is on the NS Kenova Subdivision, about 25 miles northwest (timetable West) of Williamson, W.Va.
