EMO, Ontario — Fourteen cars of a Canadian National potash train derailed today (Feb. 4, 2025), the CBC reports.
No injuries were reported. The derailment occurred about 7:30 a.m., CN said in a statement to the broadcaster. The railroad said the cause is under investigation. The Township of Emo said in a Facebook post that two nearby streets would be restricted to local traffic only to allow for movement of equipment needed for the cleanup process.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada announced it has deployed an investigator to the derailment site to gather information and assess the event.
Emo — just across the Rainy River from northern Minnesota in a sparsely populated area — is on CN’s Fort Frances Subdivision, about 21 miles west of Fort Frances and 35 miles east of the town of Rainy River.
