Historian and author Bill Griffin Jr. dies at 71 NEWSWIRE

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – William E. Griffin Jr., 71, retired personnel director of the Richmond Fredericksburg & Potomac and later CSX, died Tuesday. A railroad employee for more than 30 years, Griffin was also a rail historian who wrote several books about railroads in his native Virginia and predecessors of CSX.

Among the titles by Griffin were “Virginia Railroads, Vol. 1;” “Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac Railroad’s Passenger Service, 1937-1973;” “Atlantic Coast Line: Standard Railroad of the South;” “Seaboard Air Line Railway: The Route of Courteous Service;” “The Atlantic & Danville Railway Company: the Railroad of Southside Virginia;” and “Seaboard Coast Line Family Lines Railroad 1967-1986.”

Griffin was a native of Alberta, Va., and U.S. Army veteran.

  1. Bill will be missed. His books were all very well written and informative. One of the few authors in any genre that I enjoyed enough to obtain the complete body of his work.
