LA GRANDE, Ore. — Eleven single-stack container cars of a Union Pacific train derailed west of La Grande on Thursday evening, Feb. 27, Union County Emergency Services reports.
The derailment occurred about 9 p.m. No injuries were reported and Union Pacific confirmed no hazardous materials were involved. Two grade crossings — at Fire and Greenwood streets — were expected to be blocked for some time while UP conducts an investigation.
La Grande is approximately 290 rail miles east of Portland, Ore., and is at the eastern end of UP’s La Grande Subdivision and western end of the railroad’s Huntington Sub.
Is it possible that some UP initiated train handling rules are causing these problems? Intermodal makeups should not be a problem.
I would love to know the length of all these derail UP traind lately and if the had DPUs
“La Grande is approximately 290 rail miles west of Portland, Ore.” Soooo, in the Pacific Ocean?
Oops. Corrected.
Lets see what the scorecard is thus far….
– Coal drag in Montana
– A double stack container run in Arizona
– A group of single stacks in Oregon
Any Nike’s on these loads? Any large screen TV’s from China?
How about taillights for Ford F-150’s?
