Robert “Bob” Brasseur died on February 27, 2025 at the age of 88.
Bob was well known in the toy train hobby. In the early 1970s, he started repairing trains in his family’s basement, eventually becoming a Lionel Authorized Service Station in 1974.
“Dad was very passionate about Lionel trains,” said his son Dean in an email to CTT. “His dream was to open a train store, which he did fulfill.”
Over time, the business expanded, with Bob selling parts and other model train products, and he moved to a brick-and-mortar building, renamed Brasseur Electric Trains in Saginaw Michigan. The store did a brisk repair business with its team of technicians, which included Bob, his son Dean and his grandson Jacob.
“I got my passion for repairing trains from him at an early age and years later I helped him open the train store. Bob was also instrumental in Jacob’s passion for train repair,” said Dean.
After K-Line went out of business in 2006, Brasseur acquired the unassembled parts and cataloged and sold them for many years, along with its large inventory of Lionel parts.
The business closed in August of 2023. Trainz purchased much of the leftover K-Line inventory, but Dean and Jacob continued the repair business.
“Jacob and I are carrying on the tradition of providing excellent customer service through Brasseur Electric Train Repair in Albemarle, N.C.,” said Dean.
We at Classic Toy Trains offer our condolences to the Brasseur family.
