
PORT CLINTON, Pa. — The Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, the Reading & Northern’s tourist rail operation based in Jim Thorpe, Pa., will once again offer its Bike Trains on selected weekends in May through September.
The trains, part of the railroad’s schedule for more than a decade, carry passenger and their bicycles from Jim Thorpe northbound through Lehigh Gorge State Park to White Haven, Pa., after which participants can make a downhill return trip by bike to Jim Thorpe. Tickets are priced at $39; for those who would like to participate but do not have their own bicycles, Pocono Biking offers a limited number of rental bikes at White Haven, which can be returned to Pocono’s Jim Thorpe location across the street from the railroad’s ticket booth. Cost for a one-way ticket plus bike rental is $66.
Round-trip tickets are also available for those who do not wish to bike but want the opportunity for a longer trip than the standard Lehigh Gorge Scenic journey. Those tickets are $39 for adults and $19 for children ages 3-12. Those 2 and under ride for free. Cab rides are also available for $65, with a limit of two cab riders per trip.
The bike trains are scheduled to operate May 17-18; June 6,7, and 28; July 19-20, Aug. 16-17, and Sept. 20-21, with departures from Jim Thorpe at 9:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.Tickets are available by calling the railroad at 570-325-8285; select option No. 1.
