LAREDO, Texas — Railroad and logistics company Ironhorse Resources will partner with Kraus Development to develop a 2,000-acre rail industrial park as part of Kraus’ Gateway Industrial Park north of Laredo.
The Gateway Rail Industrial Park will be part of a more than 3,300-acre development at the intersection of Interstate 35 and State Route 255, about 24 miles north of central Laredo. It aims to improve the area’s truck-to-rail logistics, offering a shortline connection to Union Pacific, and has sites for distribution centers, dry and cold storage, and manufacturing, construction, energy and produce businesses.
“Partnering with Kraus Development on this transformative project is a significant milestone for Ironhorse Resources,” Ironhorse Resources President Matt Cundiff said in a press release. “This development not only expands our footprint in Texas but also reinforces our commitment to providing top-tier rail solutions that drive economic growth and operational efficiency for our clients.”
Kraus Development CEO Kurt Kraus said Ironhorse’s “proven track record ensures that our future tenants will benefit from reliable rail service, allowing them to efficiently connect with rail and enhancing their ability to compete in the U.S. and global markets.”
The Laredo Morning Times reported in September 2024 that the industrial park’s CEO, Tyler Kraus, said the development’s Unit 1 of about 400 acres is in progress. He told the Kiwanis Club of Laredo that it could take 15 to 20 years to complete the project.
Ironhorse operations include eight short lines and switching services, as well as transloading, warehousing, and trucking. More information is available here.
