KINSTON, N.C. — A new short line railroad is up and running in the Tarheel state. The Gulf & Ohio Railways has added the Kinston & Snow Hill Railroad to its portfolio of short line and industrial railroads.
The Kinston & Snow Hill pays homage to the short line railroad that operated from 1903 to 1913 on the same line. The railroad is located on a 5.7-mile industrial park spur that serves the N.C. Global TransPark in Kinston.
“We look forward to exploring the opportunities that we see this rail line offering,” says Peter Claussen, vice chairman of Gulf & Ohio Railways. “It is truly a unique piece of property and presents a lot of growth potential.”
Former Lancaster & Chester SW900 No. 90 will be the railroad’s motive power. The line interchanges with Norfolk Southern at Kinston.

I thought they filed to run it as the North Carolina & Atlantic, and that this trackage is relatively new construction.
