BG & CM will acquire the line between Konkolville and Jaype, Idaho, according to regulatory filings with the U.S. Surface Transportation Board. The transaction is scheduled to close on March 15.
The Great Northwest Railroad is a 97-mile short line running from Ayer Junction, Wash., to Forebay, Idaho. Products shipped on the line include forest products, agricultural products, industrial and farm chemicals, scrap iron, and frozen vegetables.
The line was originally part of the Camas Prairie Railroad, which dates to 1909. Watco purchased the line in 2004 and named it the Great Northwest Railroad.
Is there any.update on this or how the railroad is currently doing? I know the 2nd Sub has been discontinued beyond Culdesac since 2011 and the tracks appear to be torn up beyond Craigmont. I’d love to see the Camas Prairie region need rail service again to justify reopening the 2nd Sub to Craigmont. Transloading facilities could definitely be a feasibly new source of income to help the railroad stay profitable and relevant.
Is there a interchange with anybody?
BG&CM is not a new company. It is the official name of the company trading as Bountiful Grain & Craig Mountain. Konkolville is on a short branch from Orofino, on the main line of that company, which interchanges with Great Northwest at Forebay.

Did someone get a new timber contract? Am I correct to presume the track will be opened to haul logs to Lewiston? I had heard that the sawmills on the line had been torn down..

And they’ve been operating Camas Prairie beyond Lewistown for a while now. Just putting a branch back into service.
