FORT WORTH, Texas — BNSF Railway recognized a special group of employees for their outstanding achievements in 2016 at an awards ceremony last night in Fort Worth, Texas. The annual Employees of the Year program identifies employees who have made exceptional contributions while demonstrating BNSF’s vision and values through their commitment, leadership and focus on working safely and efficiently to meet customer expectations. Their achievements positively impact BNSF customers, fellow employees, owners and the communities served by BNSF.

Of the more than 40,000 team members across the company, 65 employees were recognized during the ceremony for their individual and team achievements in 2016. An additional 40 BNSF employees were acknowledged for their safety leadership last year – all of whom led teams that worked throughout 2016 without a reportable injury.

“Our Employees of the Year program is a way to recognize our people for exceptional efforts and results,” said Carl Ice, BNSF president and chief executive officer. “These employees are a reflection of our entire team’s resolve to focus on safety, serve our customers, improve efficiency and performance, and deliver on the essential role we play in our global economy every day.”

This year’s award recipients’ actions span a range of achievements and reflect valuable contributions to important initiatives at BNSF. Examples of their efforts include the efficient transition of the majority of BNSF’s frac sand business to unit train service; the successful renewal of BNSF direct operations on the 130-mile rail line between Tenaha and Silsbee, Texas, previously operated by Timber Rock Railroad; and partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration to develop a safety integration plan for beyond-visual-line-of-sight operations of unmanned aerial vehicles in the U.S. Also honored were five Safety Employees of the Year, representing the Engineering, Intermodal Business Unit Operations, Mechanical, Telecommunications and Transportation teams. These five employees are featured in our Safety Employees of the Year video.
