BELEN, N.M. — Railroad officials are investigating the cause of a weekend train accident in Belen, on BNSF Railway’s Southern Transcon.

A BNSF representative confirms to Trains that two trains were involved in a derailment Saturday, Dec. 8, about 2:30 p.m. local time along a section of triple track. Two of five railroaders who were on two locomotives involved in the derailment were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Six freight cars derailed, in all, but BNSF crews quickly re-railed the cars and repaired damaged tracks.
