Mr. Fujiwara, this is the track plan I want to use for my 50s style SP piggyback layout. You mention that we should use cars 40' or shorter but I need 50'. I don't have the level of design sophistication to lay custom built turnouts, and would like to use KATO track. Adding the "frame" won't be any problem. Thanks for any help you can offer!

Hi John.
I designed Wordsworth Township using Atlas C55 and custom-built turnouts based off of Fast Tracks turnout templates (mostly 12"/9" curved turnouts).
Makes for very tight running, but building some turnouts as a single fixture will reduce derailments.
I also suggest only 4-axle diesels like the Kato NW2 or the Bmann 44-Tonner and maybe the new Bmann 2-6-0 for steam, as well as keeping rolling stock to 40' or under.
Adding a "frame" of 1"x4"s around the edge of the 2'x4' will give you a wee bit more area (1 1/2" width and length) as well as some depth under the pink foam in case you want to use Bullfrogs, Tortoises, or Bluepoints for turnout control.
