CBS station DFW reports that one locomotive and six cars derailed and remained upright. Seven other cars left the tracks and overturned near Pecan and Main Street. Some of the cars came within feet of damaging a house located a few yards away from the tracks. A fence and detached garage located on the same property sustained minor damage.
Aubrey is located in Denton County and is approximately 50 miles north of Dallas. The train was traveling northbound and was composed of empty gondolas. No injuries or hazardous material spills were reported.
“[UP is] working to quickly and safely clear the main line,” UP spokeswoman Kristin South told CBS DFW. “An inspection team will look at the tracks and make any necessary repairs.”
It is so strange that I could not find any news about that scary derailment with involved open-top hopper cars in any of the Union Pacific’s websites! Correct me if I am wrong please!
Daryl, I think you’re correct. Coal gon’s would be flat bottomed and square ended
I sometimes think if I could I would buy a home close to railroad tracks…though probably not THAT close!
Are my eyes deceiving me, don’t those look like hopper cars not gondolas???
