CHAMA, N.M. — The 64-mile narrow gauge Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad that runs from Chama to Antonito, Colo., is the subject of a new documentary short film, The Railroader, premiering on National Geographic Short Film Showcase today. The Railroader, the latest project by Brooklyn-based film production company From The Woods, explores the modern West, cultivated by a people unafraid of their differences. Through the lens of lifetime railroader John Bush, the film navigates the C&TS, built in 1880, and its commitment to survive in the twisting and remote mountains of New Mexico and Colorado while demystifying the lore of rugged individualism; and exposing a communal grit and spirit of togetherness that is America’s true heritage.

  1. What a beautiful film! It does so much for me just to see it in such a well-crafted film! Well done! The only problem: It’s too short of a short film!

  2. Gotta catch this one on NG YouTube! Now’s the time for the Trains and Classic Trains crews to join together and produce their own DVD on The Track of the CATS. Never can inhail enough of that fantastic Colorado Rocky Mountain High Country narrow gauge smoke into my lungs!

  3. Gorgeous drone footage and a great explanation of what those who really get the bug in their souls for railroading and preservation experience. Love this.
