TOMAH, Wis. — Tomah’s renovated Amtrak station will open on Wednesday, Feb. 13.

A dedication ceremony is set for 4:30 p.m., the Tomah Journal reports. There is also a town hall meeting that evening featuring a representative of the Wisconsin Rail Passenger Association, discussing the status of the Empire Builder and the possibility of a second Amtrak train between Chicago and Minneapolis-St. Paul. That meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Tomah City Hall.

The Tomah station was built by the Milwaukee Road and dates to the early 1900s, according to Amtrak’s Great American Stations website. Renovation began in 2016 but was halted for an extended period before resuming in September 2018. The eastbound Empire Builder is scheduled to serve Tomah daily at 11:26 a.m., while the westbound train stops at 6:27 p.m.

  1. Well, I don’t know if my comments below had any effect, but I can now log in on my computer again. Complaint suspended.

  2. Off topic but I don’t know how else to get customer service’s attention. I can no longer log in to this site on my computer because it is old and has an older version web browser. I can only log in on my phone which has much smaller type. It’s also much more difficult for me to type comments without a full size keyboard. In spite of checking keep me logged in, it doesn’t. I’ve written to customer service numerous times and have not received any response. This is no way to treat a loyal subscriber of many years.

  3. With Fort McCoy by Tomah, this was probably one of the main reasons why Milw Road stopped there. McCoy is still there & just as active, but not sure how much passenger business it provides.

  4. Tomah was one of those stops, like Mauston and Wisc. Dells, that the Milw. Rd. wished to bypass when inaugurating the Olympian Hi,. wishing to run non-stop between Milw. and St.Paul. Let the restored Columbian do the dirty work, the thinking went. Wouldn’t it be nice to have those 2 sisters back?
