Model Railroader managing editor David Popp developed an operating scheme for his N scale New Haven layout. Adopting the idea of operating trains with a purpose will make your layout more interactive and realistic.

Thanks both for compiling the book and for sharing the operational list. Very helpful for someone getting started.
Where can i download the track plans, etc. Looks great to an old New Yorker.
Thanks. Nice to see a generic list tailored to model operations.
Thanks a lot! This will come in handy
Mr. Popp:
THANK YOU! And for the kindness of sharing these forms with the rest of us. I do not remember any magazine, or editor, offering to share his efforts with the rest of the hobby in the sixty years I have been 'playing with trains', or chasing the 1:1 trains. Thank you so very much.
Just subscribed to the site and truly appreciate the tremendous value the community offers in sharing information. Many thanks to all.
I've built a couple layouts in the past mostly just scenery and a few sidings to switch. The next layout I've been planning is an around the walls type layout that requires lots of switching of industries. This special edition on operations could not have come available at a better time. Lots of info on how to operate the thing.
I have the issue and really enjoy it. Thanks a bunch for the downloadable switch list and industry list. I have been looking for a switch list I could download and have not found one. This is a great plus for being a MR subscribing member.
i love train sooooo much
Hi all,
I'm a newbie in all of that and I'm reading with great interest this special edition and I love it. I have a few questions:
– Where can we see the overal layout?
– On the first switch practice, I don't understand how the locomotive ends at the trail ready to go back to north. Is there a switch in the north that is not shown in the drawings?
Thank you!
Thanks a bunch, gang! I can really use these in operating.
These forms will greatly help our club develop better operations. Thank you for your generosity.
Thanks for your generosity in sharing these forms. Save me the time of making them myself.
Thanks for the downloadable Industry and Switch Lists, David & MR! By you doing stuff like this, it gets an 'armchair model railroader' up and outta that chair! 🙂
