Rail Yard Models, a manufacturer of HO scale resin model railroad freight car kits, ceased operations on March 1, 2012. In a statement on the company’s website, owner Gene Fusco wrote, “I have had a great deal of satisfaction designing, manufacturing, and selling my kits to some of the best modelers in the railroad hobby. Without you, none of this would have been possible. It’s been a great ride and I thank you all!”

The catalog pages on the website, www.railyardmodels.com, have been turned off. Once a final inventory has been completed, the remaining kits will be sold on the internet auction website eBay. Decals from the kits will be sold through the Rail Yard Models website.

  1. I do not like prebuilt units. I find it relaxing to build models and enjoy seeing my own work. Now everything on the market is preassembled and nothing can be fixed it is all throw away. TV games have taken away any crafting and they have nothiung to show in 10 years. It is to bad companies have to close due to market demands.

  2. So sad i work in n gauge but used to enjoy the catalog pages
Such is life they wont be the last company to cease trading

  3. some how some way this always makes me like i've lost a part of myself when we in the model railroad lose a provider of such highly detailed products. but it eases my pain to know there are others waiting in the shadows to shine new light into the model railroad world. the end of the tunnel is in sight. bright lights ahead new horizon.

  4. Still have a few Old Varney metalcars which I enjoy. They may not be perfect scale or finely detailed, but I remember where most of them came from and the relationships of fellow train nuts as we enjoyed playing with our trains.

  5. Personally; I am not familiar with Rail Yard Models products, but it seems a waste to have a supplier pull the plug. The reasons may be overwhelming; I can't know that, but in the past many brand names continued on as they were picked up by other firms and/or interested parties. I'm probably way out of line; this line of products may have been offered for sale and found no takers, but it still tears at me when a manufacturer closes shop; especially and HO supplier. Where did those beasts sold as Varney Steam Engines go? They had remarkable mechanisms and they would pull the car out of the garage on a cold day (ok;that's too much BS, but I would still like to see Varney even if Gordon Varney died. And there was SS Ltd, and on and on and………..
