CINCINNATI — Clinchfield F7 No. 800, the famous streamliner that spent an extended vacation in Florida, is about to tour Ohio this fall, organizers of Ohio Rail Experience excursions said Friday.
The gray and yellow locomotive, restored to its original appearance in 2018 for CSX’s Santa Train, will be on loan from the Southern Appalachian Railway Museum. It had operated on a tourist railroad in Florida after the Santa Train, and recently helped move Chesapeake & Ohio 2-8-4 No. 2716 to a new home for restoration.
“Having already leased passenger cars from [Southern Appalachian], we are excited to work together on this next adventure. The cooperation amongst our organizations will hopefully set a precedent for other groups moving forward; we’re all in this together,” says Cincinnati Scenic Railway President, Ray Kammer Jr.
The increasingly popular Ohio Rail Experience excursions are one of the last few remaining opportunities in this country to enjoy an all-day train ride, sometimes in excess of 140 miles.
Trains will run from these locations: Lima, Springfield, Urbana, Leipsic, and South Charleston during the month of October.
Ohio Rail Experience excursions are operated by the Cincinnati Scenic Railway, a 501c3 Non Profit based in Cincinnati, Ohio. All proceeds from these events go towards preserving historic rail equipment for future generations to experience.
