Targeted for the new service are railroads, third party logistics companies without enough truck drivers, and shippers using their own intermodal containers, according to Schneider officials.
Citing industry changes, “The new service provides capacity and control to reliably move dray freight without the inconveniences typically associated with rail moves,” Jim Filter, senior vice president and general manager of intermodal says.
Schneider’s new service reflects its returning to its business-to-business focus. The company is in the process of phasing out its last-mile operations where it made deliveries of furniture, carpet, and appliances directly to retail consumers.
