FORT WORTH, Texas — Investigators and railroad officials are looking into the cause of a derailment and tank car fire early Wednesday morning in Fort Worth.
Union Pacific representative Kristen South tells Trains that about 25 tank cars hauling ethanol derailed near Echo Lake close to 12:30 a.m. The trains’ crew was not injured and besides the freight cars, only a single out building was damaged by the ensuring fire, reports the Fort Worth Star Telegram newspaper.
South says the fire is contained, but that hazardous materials specialists remain on scene.
I think you meant “ensuing.”
I wonder what kind of tank cars were involved.
Unfortunately because of the hygroscopic nature of ethyl alcohol this commodity can be shipped only by rail. Pipelines are out. So as long as we are shipping industrial quantities of ethyl alcohol this sort of thing is always a risk.

The location on Google Maps is at the end of Yuma Dr, Fort Worth, Tx
NBC 5 DFW has a bunch of photos. If anyone wants to check out the tank cars used. I did not see any pics of the locomotives.
From the photos I saw there the tracks may have had water over the top of the rails. At least one tank car has the side ripped off, with a hole appox 3x 10 ft.
The above comments are my personal opinion for the most part. If you want a lawyer call your state bar.
Dallas/Ft worth had about 8″ rain yesterday. Almost sounds like a washout or scoured track to be the culprit.
The location of the derailment is not in downtown Fort Worth.
You have to wonder when a fire department’s command unit goes up in flames on its own (not due to the derailment.) Shame about the horses, though the owner seemed fairly calm about the entire situation.
