The Minnesota Streetcar Museum operates two streetcar lines in Minneapolis and Excelsior, Minn. The museum has six operational Minnesota streetcars from the Twin City Rapid Transit Co., Duluth Street Railway, and Winona Power & Light.
This past winter the No. 1 traction motor for Twin City Rapid Transit Co. No. 1300, built in 1908, went bad. In addition, recently restored Winona Power & Light No. 10 also had a traction motor go bad and will have to have its armature re-wound. The car was to enter service at the Museum’s Excelsior Streetcar Line this season but instead will have to wait until the motor is repaired. Both the motors going bad at the same time is a major unplanned expense for the Museum. The repair work on the motors includes rewinding the armatures and removing all asbestos, which is time-consuming and expensive.
