EVANSTON, Wyo. – Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 will draw plenty of attention Wednesday as it begins descending the long grade from Evanston to Ogden, Utah.

That grade goes through one of the most picturesque and pictured canyons in North American railroading: Echo Canyon.

The Wasatch grade that leads to Echo begins just west of Evanston, descends a cut dug into the rocks before falling hundreds of feet to Echo, Wyo.

Take a look as Trains visits the canyon a day early to scout interesting photo locations.

  1. Not to rain 9n this parade but it’s too bad that this historic line does not have regular scheduled passenger trains.
