MONTREAL — Rob Reilly, a 30-year veteran of the rail industry with Santa Fe and BNSF, has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer at Canadian National, effective July 1.

The railroad also announced the promotion of Michael Foster to executive vice president and chief information and technology officer, effective June 3.

Reilly, 54, is a graduate of Washburn University and the executive program at Stanford University. His rail experience includes work in safety, rail operations, field application of rail technologies, and an understanding of the intermodal business at major ports and terminals. He will replace Mike Cory, who will retire as executive vice president and chief operating officer on June 30 after 38 years at CN.

Foster, 52, joined CN in March 2018 from FedEx. A CN press release says “his background strongly positions him to apply artificial intelligence and data analytics to transportation logistics.” He has been involved in CN’s installation of positive train control, automated track and train inspections, and mobile devices for railroaders.
