On June 5, a southbound NJ Transit DMU leaves Roebling station, 10 miles south of its origination in Trenton and 23 miles from its destination of Camden. Service on the route is currently being disrupted because of equipment issues.

TRENTON, N.J. — Service on NJ Transit’s River Line light rail service is operating at a “very limited” level today as the agency begins “emergency mechanical inspections and repairs” to equipment, NJ.com reports.

Wheels on a light rail vehicle failed a scheduled safety inspection, and preliminary study has indicated a defect in a batch of wheels, NJ Transit said in a statement. As a precaution, wheels on all vehicles are being inspected; once passed, they are returned to service. NJ Transit initially said service on the line would be suspended, but chose instead to operate the line between Trenton and Camden, N.J., on a limited basis, augmented by bus service. Express buses will operate between the four highest-ridership stations, which account for more than half of the daily ridership.

The agency did not say when it expected service to return to normal.
