GLEN HAVEN, Wis. — The main BNSF Railway route between Chicago and Minneapolis/St. Paul will remain closed through at least Tuesday after a mudslide caused a derailment Monday morning, sending at least one car into the Mississippi River.

About 15 cars of the southbound intermodal train were reported to be derailed, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. Photographs show one end of a car carrying two containers resting in the river. Officials said there was no public safety threat from the accident and environmental impact appeared to be minimal.

The accident site is about 4 miles south of Prairie du Chein, Wis. About 4 inches of rain were have reported to have fallen in the area on Monday, leading to concerns about the possibility of additional mudslides.

A BNSF service advisory says it estimates reopening one track of its double-track main line at midnight tonight, but there is no estimate for reopening the second track.
