KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Southern’s Holiday Express train will distribute more than $170,000 to the Salvation Army at stops along its route, the railroad has announced.

The donations to the Salvation Army will provide clothing and other necessities to children in need during the holiday season.

“We are especially pleased to continue the long-standing tradition of charitable giving,” KCS president and CEO Patrick J. Ottenmeyer said in a press release. “This project brings people together, strengthens community ties, and supports our corporate vision and values.”

The 19th annual Holiday Express begins its 2019 tour with an employee-only event in Shreveport, La., on Nov. 27. The first of its 20 public stops is Nov. 29 in LaPlace, La., with the tour concluding Dec. 22 at Kansas City Union Station. A full schedule is available here.

Sponsors who helped make the charitable contributions possible include APL Logistics Americas Ltd, Bartlett Grain/Savage Companies, Deanne Porter and Patrick Ottensmeyer, Husch Blackwell LLP, Kansas City Southern Historical Society, Michael and Marlys Haverty Family Foundation, Precision Waste Solutions, L.L.C., RailPros, The Kansas City Southern Charitable Fund and Watco Companies. Additional sponsors are listed on the KCS website.

  1. Mr Rice: I agree. KCS and CN and CSX (Clinchfield) run holiday trains. WE can only speculate upon NS. Happy Thanksgiving all.
