WASHINGTON — Programs at the University of Illinois and Michigan Tech are the 2019 recipients of the National Rairload Construction and Maintenance Association’s Educational Grant Program.

The Rail Transportation and Engineering Center at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign plans to use its grant funds for outreach and recruiting of grade K-12 students that demonstrate key learning points related to rail transportation, with the goal of increasing interest in rail-related jobs.

Michigan Tech’s Rail Transportation Program also has outreach plans, including a rail tour with pre-K and Kintergarden students, as well as making the Rail and Intermodal Summer Youth Program accessible for underprivileged students in the Detroit area.

Representatives of both programs will appear at the 2020 NRC Conference in Coronado, Calif., to discuss their programs and grant plans. Trains News Wire plans coverage throughout the conference, set for Jan. 5-8.
