MOBILE, Ala. — As expected, the Mobile City Council has delayed its vote on providing funding support for the restoration of Amtrak service to the Gulf Coast.

Fox 10 News reports the vote is now set for Jan. 28.

Mobile is asked to being commit to providing $2 million to $3 million to match a federal grant covering operating expenses for the first three years of the proposed New Orleans-Mobile service. The varying figures reflect varying estimates on what those costs will be. The city council had been slated to vote on the funding on Dec. 31, 2019, but delayed because the federal deadline to commit matching funds has been pushed back from January to February [see “Mobile likely to delay decision on Amtrak funding,” Trains News Wire, Dec. 31, 2019].
