Amtrak’s ‘Three Rivers’ passes through Deshler, Ohio, in January 2003.

Q While watching a DVD recently, I noticed an Amtrak train heading west through Deshler, Ohio. In what years did Amtrak go through that piece of Ohio? – David Harnisfeger, Findlay, Ohio

A Amtrak operated on the former Baltimore & Ohio main line across northern Ohio and Indiana and through Deshler between 1990 and 2005. Amtrak shifted its New York-Chicago Broadway Limited to the route from the former Pennsylvania Railroad main line west of Pittsburgh in November 1990 due to Conrail’s desire to downgrade
that route. The train was discontinued in September 1995 but reinstated as the Three Rivers in February 1996. That train made its last run in March 2005. – Brian Schmidt

  1. What a great ride. From Chicago to Horseshoe Curve. Altoona around noon, taxi to the curve. Back to Altoona for the return trip. Sometimes the train was 30+ cars. I remember the Empire Builder with 30+ cars to. Miss the 3 Rivers!
