In order to match the starter set, I purchased it in Alaska RR colors. The rear coupler that came attached to it shattered when the locomotive fell from a bookcase shelf to the floor. As a result, I took it to a local hobby dealer, where they installed a knuckle coupler. I also wanted DCC installed, but the dealer said that it would be impossible because the locomotive is split-frame. Its headlights are always on, regardless of which direction you have it going.
The body shell is plastic with a metal frame, and the paint job is good. I liked the fact that the GP40 has a road number on it, which wasn’t included on either of the two F9’s in the starter set.
