It’s an amazing model, isn’t it? As you’d expect, when John Hunter and Dan Pickard first presented their exhibition layout at a recent Australian Narrow Gauge Convention it was ridiculously popular. They gave lectures about their research and ran “how to” clinics in front of it throughout that Easter weekend. You can see Dan (left) and John at that convention in the bottom image on this page (http://dollyvardenrr.com/pickard1.htm) and it’s great to think that their work of art is now settled into a new home and being exposed to a new audience.
Great video. Would be better if it was filmed on HD (1080p), however. As is it looks blurry on a modern monitor.
Loved it, would have liked to have heard it also. Looks like a stiff current is flowing in the water front scene.
It’s nice to see the panorama shot of the layout too. Great modeling overall!
Sound is an essential modeling element, too.

I really like the shelf concept of building a layout. Easy to build, reach, fit into odd or limited spaces etc. Just think the loco headlight on would have added a nice touch, but overall great video.
Awesome layout. I recently read Darryl Murralt’s “Steel Rails & Silver Dreams” and every scene on the layout is easily recognizable. Magnificent! Let’s hope this model layout lasts longer than the prototype, which was a struggle to build during wartime at the fringes of empire, then was hit by market collapse and financial chicanery.
Thanks for highlighting some narrow gauge. On30 is such a great modeling scale. Too many ho layouts look alike, so I like the “uniqueness” of narrow gauge!
