Expert model railroader Pelle Søeborg added an animated grade crossing signal with flashing lights, gates, and sound to his HO scale model railroad. Pelle models the modern-era Union Pacific on his model train layout. See a Digital Command Control (DCC) sound equipped locomotive lead a train and trigger the signal in this video.

On Page 66 of his latest book Pelle lists the lenses he installed on the gates to be from MV Products but does not include the part number. Does anyone know what the part number is? I have a crossing on my layout where the flashers activate but the gates do not lower (a crossing malfunction adds operating interest because the crews to have to stop and flag the crossing) and the lenses would look great. I agree with Pelle. The cast lights in the NJ International gates look rediculous. I cut them off, so following Pelle's technique would look great. I just need the MV Products part number for the red lenses. Thanks for any input, Joe

Fabulous guidance; the pictures and writing are the most helpful of any that I have read and the end result is actually beyond words.

I've put in three sets of working crossings in "N" on my double track Boston & Albany. To drive the crossing gates I've used Circuitron Remote Signal Activators and their extra cable and actuator (page 35 in their catalog) for each set off the Tortoise. Detection is Logic Rail with extra photo cells plus their bell module. A lot of work in "N" but the final result is well worth it.

Pelle, I bought the book on your layout rebuild and your layout is truly a work of art! I have spent many years working near Mojave and living in Tehachapi and your layout is exactly what I was dreaming of doing. There is nothing quite like seeing freight trains stretched out in the vast openness of California's high desert. Keep up the good work and looking forward to pictures from your Monolith addition!

I Have a habit of counting the number of cars going by while waiting for a freight to pass.this was so realistic that I caught myself doing the same thing while watching this video. Excellent job.
