The Walthers HO scale San Francisco Chief models one of the famous passenger trains of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Ry. Model Railroader received a sample of each one of the car types and locomotives offered in the series. A pair of F7 locomotives equipped with SoundTraxx Tsunami Digital Command Control (DCC) sound decoders leads the train. Check out the Walthers San Francisco Chief as it makes a run along the main line of the Model Railroader staff’s layout, the Milwaukee, Racine & Troy.

Real nice video, just love all the cars and a very interesting train I must say moving along on the layout.
Keep up the great work, layout by the way very nice.

  2. Hi Bryan,
Walthers does make interior lighting kits for these cars.
    Thanks for watching.

  3. Really nice train but are you able to put lights in the passenger cars. Also are you gonna weather the cars and F7A and F7B

  4. Interesting train. Couldn't tell exactly, but I thought the dome car was oriented the wrong way. Also interesting was the non-ribbed sleeper, almost gave the appearance of being painted in some color other than silver. Mr. Deaver wondered where the hi-level cars were; well this is supposed to be the San Francisco Chief not the El Capitan.

  5. Neat review video, Dana, looking especially good on the MR&T, where you can see the whole train stretched out in the scenery. Very nice! Thanks for showing us this train.

  6. Where were the speakers mounted? I thought the sound could have been better and what happen to the alternating crossing lights at the street crossing?

  7. The train needs two more F's on it. Santa Fe's SF Chief ran with a four unit set of F's in A-B-B-A sets
A couple more coaches should also be added to the train.
Great passenger cars from Walthers. I have their Empire Builder and a City of SF.

  8. Wow. 1 chair car and 7 Pullmans! Back when sleeper travel was much cheaper than Amtrak! Great looking train. That manual moving on the F units sounds smashing.
