Recently Jason Shron of Rapido Trains visited the Model Railroader offices. Jason was kind enough to bring some of Rapido’s new Amtrak F40PH diesels and Canadian mill gondolas. Check out both new products as Jason runs trains with Model Railroader associate editor, Cody Grivno.

  1. today friction trucks are illegal the reason is they overheat and give off smoke when the brake is applied. after the 1940s all cars in North America were fitted with roller barrings the only time you need to change them is once when the wheel starts to spall.

  2. I dropped a reservation for one as soon as these were announced. For a 1984-era railroad this is an iconic engine to have. Only wish that Jason had turned on the roof strobes – I'd really like to see that feature.

  3. The horn sounding as the train pulls away is probably the best I have heard, aside from the real thing. Have several Rapido model cars I purchased while stationed in Germany (of course they are for the DB, not American railroads), Rapidp modeling has actually impt

  4. You know the MRR podcast, the Modelers Life podcast, the Model Railcast Podcast (Thanks, Ryan, and RIP), but have you tried the Missionlog, a Roddenberry Star Trek podcast?

  5. Oh boy, a Dakotan and a Canadian talking Trek 🙂 Actually a nice group of models. Rapido makes some nice stuff. The F40PH is the wrong era for my layout but it sure looks and sounds like the ones that ran through my area. The gondolas are delightful, really excellent examples of the modelers' arts. Thanks for these manufacturer interviews, it is fun to put a face (or faces) with the product.

  6. I just received my VIA #6416, and what a great looking and running machine. It is everything Jason and associates are billing it as.

  7. Canadian EH! Jason is the ultimate enthusiast. Great products, great details. Oh and some more Cdn English for you. Gone dula not gone dola; Deezel not deesel, Roof not Ruff, it's just a matter of getting the right em-Fasis on the correct sill -abl
    Just sayn eh!
    great videos on MR 🙂

  8. A true renaissance man Jason is- trains, Star Trek and hockey what a guy! And its products are awesome!!

  9. Congratulations to David, Cody and Jason as MR Video Plus crosses into the world of special effects. Truly entertaining. Keep up the enthusiasm, it is contagious.

  10. Cody, that fascia and skirting on the MR&T looks great. Any chance that you might do a "How To" video on it? What it's made of, how it's attached etc.

  11. Very nice job on the Amtrak engines, especially the horn. Now, if you can do that well, you might try it with one bell bent or slightly clogged.
The gons are excellent, particularly the re-built roller bearing trucks. Glad to hear they are for sale separately. Just hope we won't have to contact Star Fleet Command to get them.
