See and hear the N scale Baldwin DR-12-8-1500/2, better known as the “Centipede,” in action on one of the Model Railroader staff’s N scale project layouts. Both units of the A1-A2 are powered and feature Paragon2 Digital Command Control (DCC) sound decoders.

  1. Looks like you’ve installed the drawbar incorrectly on the leading unit. There is a screw hole for the coupler and one further forward for the drawbar, you appear to have used the coupler hole. The other problem with this is that it lifts the drawbar up (as seen in the side shot), it should be level. On my layout this also caused some derailment issues.

And, there are a ton of sound features with these guys. I really like mine.

  2. Very impressive sounding and looking model, but that drawbar length is way too long. It’s time for N Scale manufacturers to go ahead and not build equipment to accommodate 9-3/4″ radius curves and consider the more serious modeler that probably has 15″ or greater minimum curves on the layout.

  3. Interesting engine. Video later answered my question as to why the units were so far apart; but did not answer why the discrepancy in the drawbar height?
This is not a unit(s) for a layout such as your demo. It would probably look better on 18 – 20-inch radii.
