Great sound! I really loved the automatic chuff intensity as the locomotive move up and down the grades. It looks like one of the Americans that the PRR built at the turn of the century.
GOOD LOOKING ENGINE AND GOOD PERPORMANCE.
THIS ENGINE WOULD BE GREAT FOR A LOGGING
PLATFORM ON MY LAYOUT.

I like Bachmann products. I just wish they would step up to the challenge of taking steam engines to a new level by adding synchronized smoke.

what is the differance between this one and the richmand?
The video is great and informative, but the sound was low (hard to hear). Dana was much louder and had to play with the sound to even hear the engine. Does the head light even work?
I have always enjoyed the high quality of the Bachmann product line and, from this video, this fine looking loco

These are very nice little locomotives. The review here and in the magazine could be improved by clearly comparing and contrasting what is the same and what is different about this version and the earlier version, particularly in view of the eye-waterng price increase.
Great demo and I appreciate the effort MR goes to produce these.
I liked the sound of the unit but I think it would be helpful when the sound is so far out of sync with the driver revolution that the moderator would explain, and maybe demonstrate how to set the CV to correct this.
The audio of the demonstrator is far too loud in relation to the sound of the locomotive being demonstrated. It forces a listener to stay on top of the volume setting. An early sound check before completion would solve this.
Overall, thanks for the demo of the product.
I have one. I really like it. But it didn't work out of the box. Had to return it for repair and waited for two months. Got it back in good condition. Runs and sounds good. May buy another but not unless the seller takes it out of the box and runs it first. This is the third loco I've bought with the same problem. Very disheartening.
I love that Great Northern paint scheme. What a beautiful looking little 4-4-0.
Beautiful engine and performer. Like the steady chuffing in the video but didn't hear the whistle (maybe I should turn my volume up, but Dana was loud. Keep up the good work on these Web videos that feature just a loco in motion.

If it's as good as the climax they released, it'll be a good performer. I love the climax and encourage anyone interested in that model loco to give it a look/listen. Sound on video does need some fine tuning but realize it's difficult to capture the sound as good as it is live. Appreciate your reviews – keep up the good work, Dana.
I enjoy my loco from bchmann, great value runs better at slow speed ; then some of my more expensive locos. P.S. the sound quality of your videos is poor, check it out ok! I will give the article a 5 and the sound a 1.

had to turn my volume ALL the way up to hear the "whistle" blowing at the cow, sounded more like a "horn", is that just me?
I already have four of these 4-4-0's from an earlier run. They are all beautifully detailed and run like clocks right out of the box…. after a good wheel cleaning.
The sound of the engine is not loud because the air chamber (tender interior) is very small. Larger engines with larger tenders, like the Bachmann 63" driver 4-6-0 and the Russian Decapod are much louder.
The whistle I hear on the video is the Soundtraxx "Nathan 5-chime" (really a lot more like an SP or MP 6-chime passenger whistle), and that whistle at maximum volume setting via CV work cannot be made loud enough to be REALLY LOUD compared to the chuff like with a real steam engine. You have to turn the chuff volume down via another CV. And then the entire engine is REALLY QUIET, not very good for me because real steam engines were very loud things and that is how I like them.
I do not know what the other whistle choices are on this engine's decoder, but the default one is a very quiet recording to begin with…. not the best choice for such a small air chamber.
To all of the people having problems with sound volume and chuff timing ……. learn to use the CV's. Everything can be made better, including very low-speed operation.
Very smooth running locomotive. Nice to see that Bachmann got the axles centered in the drivers properly. I thought the sound had good clarity as well. Very impressive for a small, short wheelbase steamer.
