In 1956, the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Ry. re-equipped its El Capitan passenger train with all-new streamlined equipment, including Hi-Level cars. Check out this HO scale model of the famous train from Wm. K. Walthers Inc. We ran the train on the Model Railroader staff’s club model train layout, the Milwaukee, Racine & Troy.

I am primarily a railfan, and care less about the time, intricacies, and (shudder) paper work of operation. So, how refreshing to see well modeled passenger cars making their way through a nicely constructed, realistically presented series of scenes. Well done to Walthers, and to the Folks at "MR"
Rode the El Capitan home from Los Angeles to Joliet, Il after boot camp in San Diego circa Feb 1960. Enjoyed the 39-hour trip and the video brought back some fond memories to this sailor. Thanks again.
I guess this is a re-release, Walthers sold the regular and limited edition sets last year. Seeing this set, I think the limited set is well worth it if you can swing the extra money. Seeing the cars with such large windows and without passengers made them seem so empty.
Paul Sanchez: this video isn't about the locomotive. The El Capitan passenger cars do not emit sounds. The loco used to pull them is not part of the passenger car set, I think it's just a stand-in to pull the cars to help show off the cars.
Walther's did an excellent job of creating the Super Chief and the El Capitan. I am a proud owner of both trains with several locomotive to switch out on both trains. A true fan of Santa Fe!
Thanks to Dana, thanks to Walthers. A very nice model of a fantastic train. I´ll order a set in the next days. What´s about the Union Pacific M10003? Will we see a topmodel of that train in the future from Walthers???
While growing up in Albuquerque, N.M. I saw many a Super Chief and El Capitans. Cool looking passenger train. I now live in southern Oregon and really miss seeing trains. I'm new to HO scale trains and just started my own layout with steam locomotives first. Plan on getting a Super Chief passenger train next.
It is nice to see a passenger train on a larg layout that is big enough is in raal life where the cars are the rails insted or the center of the car is over dirt and trucks are on rails.
Great models and video. Thanks to Dana for working on these new videos. I wish MRR would go back to running the credits so we know who else to thank. Presumably David Popp for Production, but who else worked on it? Anyway, thanks again to whoever worked on this month's reviews.
**XCELLENT; XTREMELY WELL PRESENTED TO SELL THIS PRODUCT. DONT THINK THIS "EL-CAP" WILL B ON THE STORE SHELVES LONG, IN FACT, THEY'LL PROBABLY SELL OUT IN MATTER OF WEEKS. WALTHERS DID AN XCELLENT JOB IN PRODUCING THE "EL-CAP"; THANKS GUYS!!
It's time to buy a High Definition camera.

Looks nice, however, I would like to hear the train sounds instead of the 15 piece band playing all the way through the presentation.
When I viewed the video it kept "refreshing" itself. Otherwise the cars looked great!

Excellent presentation, however, two F40PH's should pull this train.

That'll be even better when the F units come out-
